About me
I grew up in the rural, beautiful Odenwald. The only thing it lacks is a university, so after school I moved to Heidelberg to fulfil my childhood dream and study Astronomy. Time flies and by now I have been there for over a decade. Currently I am doing my PhD at the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut in the research group of Kathryn Kreckel. As part of PHANGS – a worldwide collaboration that has built up an impressive collection of astronomical observations – I study the different components of the ionized gas in nearby galaxies. This ranges from H II regions, which are powered by newly formed massive stars, to Planetary Nebulae, which represent the stunning last glow of smaller stars.
I do a lot of data science in my job and I also like to apply this knowledge to everyday topics – ranging from analyzing my movie diary to mapping historic data. I am also a big fan of typography and as such love to typeset nice looking documents with LaTeX. Other projects like this website are more driven by the curiosity to try out something new. And I have to admit that I really appreciate by now. For me it serves as a practical companion that I can use to browse through completed projects.

- ... coded from scratch without the need for a site generator.
- ... compiled with the help of the Python packages markdown to convert the content to html and Jinja to wrap it in the templates.
- ... using JavaScript libraries like Prism and MathJax to display code and formulas.
- ... tries to be a digital garden.
- ... always work in progress. Unfortunately, this also means that links might change over time and some old ones may lead to nowhere.
